10 Days of Silence with just You..and your mind

I took a trip to…the source… to look for some answers. A 10 Day Silent retreat—-Vipassana meditation. I wanted to look “behind the curtain”, You know—to see what’s there. Wanna know what’s behind the curtain? Another curtain. 100’s, 1000’s more curtains. But, y’know what? I found each one to be just a bit… lighter. And I think, in the end, if you go deep enough and far enough, when you pull the last curtain, it’s like peeling an onion. What’s left?

Just the essence of the onion.

The rub is—then there’ll always be another curtain….

How deep you wanna go?image

How Big Is Life?

Lance Armstrong. Joe Paterno. Sandusky, et al.

There are more. You know the names. You have their Jersey or bracelet. You’ve invested your admiration and trust in them, what they’ve accomplished and what (you thought) they stood for.

It’s a long fall from the pedestal we put them on. About the same distance from your heart to your gut— where you feel that let-down punch to see your hero turn out to be, well, something way else.

Joe’s gone. Sandusky’s fate is sealed. Lance is uber-rich, even if the medals are taken away and Nike disowns him.

We make our sports heroes bigger than Life. And sometimes they disappoint by showing how small they really are.

“Your Calling”

“Every calling is great when greatly pursued.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

“Hello, it’s me. The one who keeps talking to you about that “thing”. That project. That possibility.

I know you think you couldn’t be the one for the job, but honestly, if you weren’t the one for the job, I wouldn’t have come to you with it.

I wouldn’t have come knocking at the door of your mind. I wouldn’t have come into your dreams, into your imagination, into your heart.

I wouldn’t have made it so compelling to think about me.

I wouldn’t have planted in you the frustration with what is.

I wouldn’t have planted in you the vision of what could be.

You say you want more meaning, more adventure, and to have a greater impact.

I’m offering you all of that, but you keep telling me I’m silly, unrealistic, too big, when here I am, ready to give you the greatest adventure of your life.

I don’t take it personally, but I do weep about it.

I weep for the joy you are missing out on. I weep because you aren’t getting to witness your immense strength and brilliance. I weep for what the world is missing out on too.

When I took this job, they told me much of it would be waiting. Waiting for you.

I want to make sure you know, I’m here, close as breath, waiting. I’m waiting for you to say yes.

We can do this. Together, we can do this “thing”.

It’s true, part of my job is creating challenges and dark moments along the way—but only enough of them to teach you the most beautiful lessons you’ll ever learn.

I need you. Your hands. Your heart. Your mind. Your circumstances. Your strengths. Your weaknesses. Your wounds. Your wit. Your tale.

It’s your time. I need you, just as you are.

You ready?

Love,

Your Calling”

“The Most Interesting Man In The World”

For Dos Equis—just some of the ones they haven’t thought of yet:

“His telephone—answers to no one”

“His shots of Tequila—shoot back”

“His baseball cleats have spikes—-on the inside”

“His Smart Phone admits—-it’s not as smart as he is”

“His Nickname is actually—-“Nick”

“His texts— are in perfect Calligraphy”

“He walks with a slight limp—but with a rhythm to the theme from Shaft”

(more to come…)

Stay tuned my friends.”

Swear To God-my wife sent me this text: “Meet me at the other Starbucks”

Decided not to read iTunes “Terms of Agreement”. Too long. I’ll wait for the movie.

You know it’s a really f***ed up flash mob when: it’s in your living room, only your family showed up, and they just keep telling you to stop drinking.

To quote our unique late icon:

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench…a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs………There’s also a negative side.”

-Hunter S. Thompson

If you were one of the many who witnessed the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge Fireworks, I’m proud to have produced the Music Soundtrack:
